.ON APRIL 2ND a contraption being similar to a snowfall equipment on the deck of the USS Hornet, an obsolete aircraft-carrier anchored in San Francisco Gulf, started creating a moisture of salty aerosol particles. The scientific collaboration behind the venture, the Marine Cloud Brightening (MCB) programme, led due to the University of Washington, is examining whether such aerosols might help to slow environment adjustment with a form of "geoengineering".
